THE MAD MAX INTERCEPTOR is arguably the world's most famous movie-car. Mad Max (Mad Max 2 was originally 'The Road Warrior') was the definitive cult-movie-series that re-shaped global action movies and spawned imitations such as 'Escape from New York', 'Waterworld' and entire series/concepts like 'Terminator' and 'Die Hard'.
Unlike most of the cars from famous action movies, the Mad Max cars were real - customised versions of existing high-performance road cars. Unfortunately, the Mad Max cars - like the Movies - were created in Australia. They were based on vehicles totally unique to the Australian market - and only built in RHD. As such, they have been lost to American enthusiasts ever since. Until now! Aussie Coupes has located an exclusive cache of the history-making coupes and is making them available at affordable prices to American collectors and enthusiasts. We can supply a vehicle to suit your needs and deliver it to your door. We are also offering finance and trade-in support plus information on restorations, modifications, parts, models and memorabilia. This Guide details the models that formed the basis of the Mad Max Interceptor, plus a number of other desirable Ford coupes that are totally exclusive to Australia. All this information has been compiled from authentic records and is the basis of the cars we have available. We hope this Guide will assist you in reaching a decision, but you can also contact our helpline for more information or clarification.
OTHER UNIQUE AUSSIE COUPES… Those Aussies must have been crazy … at a time when the world was downsizing cars and engines due to the fuel crisis… they were building bigger and better. Apart from the unique and exciting coupes produced by Ford Australia, two other leading Americans with Aussie manufacturing bases were building their own home-grown high-performance heavyweights - General Motors and Chrysler. Many of these were conceived as little more than 'homologation specials' - cars built in low-volume numbers to comply with racing regulations. They featured oversize engines, beefed-up suspension and brakes, unique styling and aerodynamics and many other specialty 'customer features' aimed at racing, road-performance, comfort and luxury. Of course, the Australian market is a fraction of the US market, so normal production runs are very small. But these special and strictly-limited production runs make the cars even more priceless - especially as time has reduced the number still further. Surely, these unique machines are set to become some of the greatest collectables of all time! In their day, American auto writers billed some of these cars as 'world's fastest' in their class. For example the GM Torana XU-1 was billed as the 'world's fastest six-cylinder', and the Charger E37, E38, E49 series as 'the world's fastest coupe'. Here's a Guide to the unique cars we have available from GM/Chrysler. Further info at our helpline…. |
