1962 Australian XK Falcon

THE car chosen by Ford to represent the Falcon in the 'Heart & Soul' exhibit at the 100th Anniversary show.

The only known XK Falcon in North America and one of the most original XK's anywhere!

What is a Ford 'Heart & Soul' Car?

Try summing up 100 years and over 1,000 models in 25 vehicles or less.

Ford Motor Company is doing just that at this weekend's THE ROAD IS OURS 100th Anniversary Celebration. With the help of more than 300 automotive journalists, Ford has identified just 25 models across 100 years and eight brands that "evoked passion, inspired excitement and created enthusiasm"-cars and trucks that truly embodied the "heart and soul" of Ford Motor Company.

"When you look at the extensive product history of Ford and all of its brands, it's a daunting task to select only 25 vehicles," said J Mays, Ford Motor Company vice president for Design. "So many products were left out, but we wanted to keep the list to only the very top vehicles."

With more than 1,000 significant models to choose from, how do you get down to 25?

Why was the XK Falcon chosen as a Ford 'Heart & Soul' Car?

The Ford Falcon has been a familiar sight on Australia's roads since September 14th 1960. It was the first Ford to be completely manufactured in Australia. The 1960 Falcon was more commonly known as the XK, as it was traditionally referred to by two letters rather than by model year. That first Falcon - the XK - has been followed by more than three million sedans, wagons, utes and vans bearing the Falcon nameplate. It has also made a huge contribution to Australian motoring with a long list of innovations in design and mechanical features over the years. As far back as the 1960s Falcon introduced Australians to seat belts, dash padding and safety steering wheels.

What will happen to the car now?

After the Celebrations, the vehicle will remain in the USA for a tour of the premium show circuit and for key media appearances. Later, it is to be offered for sale and it is hoped it will go to one of the leading museums or American collectors who have already shown keen interest. A good investment and part of Ford history - $22,500 - for more information.
